Bellapais – 5 minutes up the road. A few good restaurants and bars, interesting shops, the Abbey, wonderful views over Kyrenia and home of the “Tree of Idleness” made famous by Laurence Durrell in his book “Bitter Lemons of Cyprus”. |
|
 |
 |
Kyrenia Harbour (Girne) – 5 minutes down the road. A hub of activity with numerous restaurants, bars, shops. Choice of 1-day boat-trips around the bay. |
 |
 |
Famagusta (Gazimagusa) – 1 hour. Fascinating “Old Quarters” seeped in history. Good beach; take a trip around the “cordoned-off” areas and hotels as left since 1974, but please be careful not to take any photographs as this is strictly forbidden. |

 |
-
Bogaz – 1 hour and 15 minutes. Pretty fishing village with bars and restaurants, safe bathing.
-
Nicosia (Lefkosa) – 30 minutes. Climb to the top of the Ledra Palace Hotel for a fascinating view of the “Green Line” separating the North Turkish Cyprus from the South Greek side. Wonderful opportunity for purchasing “copy” or fake designer clothes, bags, shoes etc. etc. The standard varies from shop to shop, so be careful! In the heat of the summer, we suggest that you visit after 4.00pm for your own comfort.
-
Salamis’s ruins and amphitheatre.
-
St. Hilarion Castle.
-
Karpas – 2 hours 15 minutes. Wonderful views, beaches, bars and restaurants, as well as the famous wild Karpas donkeys! Also the monastery right at the tip of the Karpas, left untouched since 1974. We suggest an overnight stay if time allows, especially if travelling in the heat of the summer.
Beaches include:
- Escape – 20 minutes to the west.
- Lapta - 30 minutes to the west.
- Algadi – 15 minutes to the east.
- Esentepe – 30 minutes to the east.
- Kaplicia – approx. 1 hour to the east.
